英文经典诗歌赏析:The Painted Ceiling& m. W; C( k' w1 j: \* c; D
, q. r& q$ |9 D. T& r
  My Grandpapa lives in a wonderful house. o  M9 ], D" D4 M1 N; n
  With a great many windows and doors,1 ?/ n+ E) V; u/ o6 p
  There are stairs that go up, and stairs that go down,
, g0 ]2 Z7 C: Z3 \; b3 G7 \  And such beautiful, slippery floors.
- C" z( |7 \& d) L3 K4 @- Y  But of all of the rooms, even mother's and mine,
. x$ `! ^+ M4 g  And the bookroom, and parlour and all,- p1 x2 b" P2 P5 W) j% S. V# z& i
  I like the green dining-room so much the best: W$ j! _. O! C  A* y5 @- r5 d
  Because of its ceiling and wall.
# L( u! D, A5 F* f  Right over your head is a funny round hole
3 `; E0 u4 T5 k) S( n7 |( x7 ?' w  With apples and pears falling through;9 ]9 j8 {9 U- l9 b2 B: _
  There's a big bunch of grapes all purply and sweet,
* F7 W3 Y2 ]; A# |# l% [  And melons and pineapples too.
% B; d) F. k9 a/ H8 }  They tumble and tumble, but never come down' _# `) C/ X1 c& x& u6 k: y5 ^
  Though I've stood underneath a long while
" f/ k# Z7 V$ F8 k& s4 L! N  R  With my mouth open wide, for I always have hoped+ g" ^3 j! v0 R4 ~5 A7 z
  Just a cherry would drop from the pile.6 {" ~( U4 y5 B
  No matter how early I run there to look4 F+ Z7 [3 W  R# H4 U
  It has always begun to fall through;
, }4 f" D, ?7 y$ }" \( B* U4 Q+ p  And one night when at bedtime I crept in to see,
$ _5 i. ]1 i5 G  It was falling by candle-light too.- m4 O5 p5 Z  p. v1 L/ C$ w
  I am sure they are magical fruits, and each one7 @6 ?# d! d1 r) s4 Q- L& ]
  Makes you hear things, or see things, or go+ @  W* G7 l3 n" M* `
  Forever invisible; but it's no use,- Q" O$ A* y. T; b  z! q" H4 a
  And of course I shall just never know.
8 b8 Y3 A# R) ~0 r  For the ladder's too heavy to lift, and the chairs
% y" r6 W: }. V1 c* W: t1 K  Are not nearly so tall as I need./ ]. W$ ~0 V2 y, U# }
  I've given up hope, and I feel I shall die6 V& X9 ^+ O. [
  Without having accomplished the deed." y1 i0 l3 C( T6 m
  It's a little bit sad, when you seem very near6 M5 a4 W* \; f' H* j- g
  To adventures and things of that sort,
2 g( ~6 v0 L3 d$ J3 W1 Z; K6 s  Which nearly begin, and then don't; and you know
' g" o; p) s, P  It is only because you are short.
